Job Description
Maintenance Director – Full-Time, At-Will, Exempt
Position Summary
Under the direction of the City Secretary, the Maintenance Director is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, coordination, and oversight of the City’s maintenance operations. This position focuses on directing staff, setting priorities, managing contracts and budgets, and leading larger, longer-term projects to ensure City facilities, parks, streets, and recreational assets are safe, functional, and well maintained. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Department Oversight
- Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to maintenance staff; assign work, set priorities, and monitor progress.
- Work with the City Secretary to manage employee schedules, comp time, vacation, and sick leave.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Ensure work is completed thoroughly and to City standards without the need for constant oversight.
Planning, Projects, & City Assets
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee maintenance, repair, and improvement projects for City facilities, parks, streets, entrances, and recreational assets.
- Develop and implement short- and long-term maintenance plans.
- Actively assist maintenance staff with project execution and daily work as needed, including hands-on work for complex or time-sensitive tasks.
- Ensure City assets are maintained for safety, cleanliness, and functionality.
- Monitor conditions and coordinate repairs, replacements, or contracted services as needed.
- Identify issues, trends, and future needs and recommend solutions to the City Leadership.
Code Enforcement & Compliance
- Perform City code enforcement duties related to maintenance and public safety, working collaboratively with City staff to document violations.
- Conduct inspections, issue red tags, and prepare written notices and correspondence as required.
- Coordinate with and provide direction to the Code Enforcement Officer regarding the issuance of citations and maintain accurate records.
Contracts, Budget & Administration
- Manage maintenance-related contracts, including vendor coordination, renewals, performance monitoring, and scope changes.
- Assist with department budgeting and long-term capital planning.
- Code invoices, track expenditures, and ensure purchases align with the approved budget.
- Maintain records and provide periodic reports to City leadership and/or City Council.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work independently with sound judgement and minimal supervision.
- Highly organized and able to prioritize work in a fast-paced, interruption-driven environment.
- Ability to shift focus as needed and return to tasks without loss of momentum or accuracy.
- Strong commitment to public service, with resident-first mindset and respectful, kind interaction with the public.
- High attention to detail; thorough and observant in identifying maintenance needs.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and long-term projects.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic technology skills, including email, document management, mobile devices, and minor troubleshooting.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- College coursework or degree in a related field preferred but not required.
- Several years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance, public works, facilities, or a related field.
- Supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Willingness to pursue relevant training or certifications as supported by the City.
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- May be required to respond to emergencies or after‑hours situations.

Seasonal Lifeguard (Summer 2026)
Position Summary
The City of El Lago is seeking responsible, energetic, and safety-focused Seasonal Lifeguards for the 2026 pool season. Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a safe swimming environment, enforcing pool rules, responding to emergencies, and providing excellent customer service to residents and guests. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with the public, staying active, and serving their community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Lifeguards are expected to perform all duties associated with Certified Lifeguarding and First Aid training, as well as City of El Lago pool operations, including:
- Actively monitor swimmers and enforce pool rules
- Open and close the pool according to schedule
- Conduct daily opening and closing duties
- Check and record water chemistry at required intervals
- Set up and store safety equipment
- Collect daily entry fees from non-members
- Maintain cleanliness of pool grounds, restrooms, and guard house
- Replenish restroom and pool supplies as needed
- Empty trash and remove debris from pool and surrounding areas
- Report equipment, facility, safety, or patron issues immediately to City staff
- Follow all Emergency Action Plans and safety protocols
- Attend and successfully complete all required weekly in-service trainings
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 15 with parent or guardian approval
- Current Lifeguard Certification (or ability to obtain before start date)
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Ability to pass a pool rules and safety test
- Strong swimming ability
- Dependable, punctual, and professional
- Comfortable working with the public and enforcing rules
- Ability to work outdoors in summer conditions
Important Expectations
- Lifeguards must remain alert and attentive at all times while on duty
- No cell phone use, reading, eating, or socializing while guarding
- Must attend mandatory weekly in-service training
- Must follow all City safety rules, Employee Policies, and Emergency Action Plans
- Must arrange a qualified replacement if unable to work a scheduled shift
- Zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol on pool property
